About Us

The organization began because of desegregation in the 1970s. We were all bused away from our neighborhood schools,Carnage Junior High and John W. Ligon, to attend Broughton, Enloe, and Sanderson High schools. In 1990, after many inquiries about the whereabouts of our classmates, several people got together to form a reunion committee. In 1992, the reunion committee was formed and the original committee members consisted of; Vivian Lee, Zenobia Fuller-Rogers, Clarence Lamb, Minnie Cooley-Moore, Everett Gill, Phyllis Lundy, Pete Green and Annette Wagner. These first committee members decided on the name B.E.S.T. (Broughton, Enloe, Sanderson, Together) because the name represented all the schools that the neighborhood members were bussed to.

Our organization is community service based and over the past thirteen years we have attempted to make a difference in our community. We have adopted families for Thanksgiving and Christmas, after each reunion we make a monetary donation to support one of the community churches. We have donated clothing, finances and support to the Helping Hand Mission of Raleigh, NC. Our members have participated in the Walk for Muscular Dystrophy (Walk for Joni Colburn’s father), given toys for the children at the Raleigh Women’s Center, and supported candidates in the Blue Revue. Last but not least we have had a fish fry and raffle tickets to raise money for the B.E.S.T. Scholarship fund. These are only a start to our community service accomplishments and we are looking forward to future participation in service with our surrounding community for years to come. B.E.S.T. takes great pride in supporting our community.

Annually, B.E.S.T. has a reunion on the third weekend in September which consists of Friday Family night where we have family oriented activities such as a basketball tournament, talent showcase, and an exhibition by the Raleigh Helping Hand Mission Band and Karate group.
These activities are held at the community recreation centers and are free to the public. On Saturday we hold a reunion dance.

We would like to thank all classmates and friends who have ever attended any of the B.E.S.T. Reunions. This reunion gives classmates the opportunity to meet and exchange information with each other and a special way to keep in touch. We are looking forwards to many years of success in the future.

To date, we are 19 members strong. We meet on the third Tuesday of every month and we welcome new members. See Membership for more information on how to join.
